China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG), one of the largest Chinese companies specialising in underground works, has won a contract to build the Prince Edward MRT station and its associated tunnels on Circle Line 6 (CCL6).

The Land Transport Authority said in a statement on Monday (9 October) that the $310.8 million contract is for the construction of a three-level underground station at Palmer Road and twin bored tunnels linking Prince Edward Station to Cantonment Station.

CRTG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited. It has constructed several national trunk railways, highways, urban rail and public works projects across China. CRTG recently completed an underpass for the Havelock MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, and is currently constructing an underpass at Stevens MRT station on the same line.

Works on the CCL6 contract are expected to commence by the end of the year and will be completed by 2025. The four-kilometre CCL6 will have three stations and will close the loop for the Circle Line by connecting HarbourFront Station to Marina Bay station.

When the Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward stations of CCL6 are completed around 2025, the Circle Line will have a total of 33 stations, including 12 interchange stations connected to other MRT lines.
