China's Liu pips Gonzalez in 20km walk nail-biter
China's Liu Hong pipped Mexico's Maria Gonzalez by just two seconds to win the Olympic women's 20km race walk in a nail-biting finish on Friday. Liu timed 1hr 28min 35sec with Gonzalez right behind her, while another Chinese walker, Lu Xiuzhi, took bronze in 1:28:42. Liu, 29, the two-time world champion in 2011 and 2015, won the bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012. On Friday she held her nerve in a tense finish over the closing three kilometers (two miles) to claim her first gold. Italy's Antonella Palmisano was fourth with China's Qieyang Shijie fifth.
