Civil servants in Singapore will receive a 0.8 month bonus at the end of this year, according to the Public Service Division on Tuesday.

This will be given to them as part of their Annual Variable Component (AVC), on top of their 13th-month bonus.

Some 980 lower-wage workers will receive at least S$1,200. For example, an officer earning a monthly salary of S$1,200 will get an AVC of S$1,200, which is S$240 more than what the person would get at 0.8 month of the salary.

The AVC payment was decided in consultation with the public sector unions, and as Singapore expects an approximate three per cent GDP growth for the full year.

“This represents a narrowing of the previous GDP forecast of 2.5% to 3.5% announced in August. Growth for the year is expected to be supported primarily by externally-oriented sectors such as manufacturing, wholesale trade and finance & insurance services, while domestically-oriented sectors such as business services are expected to remain resilient,” they said.
