A college student has gone viral on TikTok for revealing that he submitted nearly 500 job applications but only received one job offer.

Viral TikTok: Last week, Oliver Wu uploaded a video of himself admitting to sending 456 applications and participating in 56 interviews in four months. However, despite his intense effort and sacrifice, which included “zero sleep,” Wu claimed that he only landed one internship.

The video shows Wu trying to put on a smile while holding a thumbs up. He shows his spreadsheet filled with red marks or rejections from the companies he had applied for. According to Newsweek, the student said that there were days when he filled out as many as 15 to 20 applications.

Reactions: The video has received 2.7 million views and more than 200,000 likes, as of this writing. Viewers had mixed reactions to his situations, with many giving Wu advice and encouraging him to not give up and others sharing the same feelings of hopelessness.

“Guys MAKE CONNECTIONS,” one user wrote. “Network in college. It’s literally all about who you know. [I know people] who didn’t apply and had like 4-5 internship and job options off of knowing [people] alone.”

“It took me 6 months,” another person commented. “I got rejected by low tier companies and ended up getting accepted by my top choice! It will work out.”

“This makes me even more hopeless because I don’t even have the willpower to do all that,” one viewer said.
