Commander Masters brings some decent Magic: The Gathering reprints to the table

Some of these reprints have been pretty inaccessible to newer players, so hopefully the fresh supply evens out the Commander battlefields on tabletop!

With Magic: The Gathering's latest set, Commander Masters, releasing on Friday (4 Aug), players (especially Commander players) will have their picks of choice reprints for their decks.

Be it the final piece of a puzzle or something that you've wanted to try for a while, some of these reprints are going to be in pretty high demand.

For newer players, this also represents a chance to pick up some cards that haven't seen a reprint in a while. So, which of these are the most interesting?

1) Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger

This big bad Eldrazi is finally due for a reprint after its only appearance in Battle for Zendikar.

Ulamog is also gaining some popularity in Modern Tron decks recently after the release of the card The One Ring and a decent performance in the recently concluded Pro Tour The Lord of the Rings.

Twenty cards off the top of your library is pretty much going to mess up any player's game, let alone being Indestructible and also 10/10.

2) Finale of Devastation

Finale of Devastation is a versatile creature tutor, as well as a win condition if you have enough mana to sink into it to finish the game.

It has not seen a reprint since War of the Spark, so now a good time to pick one up!

Make your seemingly harmless critters the final thing your opponent sees before you crush them beneath your cardboard army. On the tabletop, of course.

3) Cyclonic Rift

This is blue’s best answer to all of your opponents’ threats, and if you have not got one for your blue decks, here is your chance to induce some salt in your next Commander game.

While this card has seen some reprint over the last few years, its usefulness is undeniable. Sending every single nonland permanent that you don't own back to your opponents' hands is surely going to give you a huge advantage.

Being able to do it as an Instant instead of a Sorcery is just the cherry on top that allows you to mess with your foes at the most opportune moment.

4) Jeweled Lotus

Yes, Jeweled Lotus is very much sought after and not at all easy to find, and it probably will remain so even after the reprint.

However, this card is made for Commander, and more players should have more access to it. A little more to the supply will definitely not hurt the game!

There is even now a textured foil chase card for Jeweled Lotus, but yeah... just get the normal variant if you just need one to play with.

It's not a Black Lotus, but it's really pretty darn close! Our apologies in advance if your Commander is one of those five-coloured fellas, though.

5) Deadly Rollick, Deflecting Swat, Fierce Guardianship

These cards were printed in separate Commander 2020 decks, meaning you could only get them if you bought those decks. They were hard to come by, and became quite inaccessible after a while.

I predicted these cards would make a return in Commander Masters, and I am so glad they are because there should be more of them in the market for Commander players, since they are only good cards because of the format.

Hopefully, the availability of these reprints will make Commander more accessible, especially to newer players, who might otherwise be intimidated of the format.

Commander Masters will be available as Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, as well as Commander Decks.
