BADMINTON women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah clinched Malaysia's seventh and final gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre on Monday (8 August),

The world No.11 duo easily defeated England's Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith 21-5, 21-8 in the final.

The duo had also clinched Malaysia's winning point in their 3-1 win over India in the mixed team final last Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong came up short against India's Lakshya Sen in the final, losing 21-19, 9-21, 16-21 to the world No.10.

Ng, ranked world No.42, had memorably defeated reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew in the quarter-finals, as well as former world No.1 Srikanth Kidambi of India in the last four.

Malaysia have won seven golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Besides the two badminton golds, the Malaysia athletes were also triumphant in para-powerlifting (Bonnie Bunyau Gustin in men's lightweight), rhythm gymnastics (Ng Joe Ee in the ribbon and ball events), and weightlifting (Aniq Kasdan in men's 55kg, Aznil Bidin in men's 61kg).
