SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of 11 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (28 February), taking the country's total case count to 59,936.

There is one new case of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection, who resides in a migrant worker dormitory, said the ministry in a news release. The remaining 10 cases are all imported and have been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) since their arrival in the country.

Details of local case

Case 60513 is a 31-year-old male Bangladesh national who works as a delivery assistant at Chng Woodworking Pte Ltd, and resides in a dormitory located at Kranji Way. His job entails loading and unloading of goods, and he does not interact with clients.

He had been identified as a close contact of Case 604321 and was placed on quarantine at a dedicated facility on 23 February, the ministry said. "He was tested for COVID-19 as part of our protocol to test individuals during quarantine even though he is asymptomatic. His swab taken on 26 February came back positive for COVID-19 and he was conveyed in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases," the MOH said. "His earlier tests from RRT (rostered routine testing) – the last being on 14 February – were negative for COVID-19 infection."

The worker's serological test result is negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection.

Details of imported cases

Among the 10 imported cases:

  • Case 60523 is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from Switzerland.

  • Cases 60520, 60522, 60525 and 60529 are long-term visit pass holders who arrived from India and Myanmar.

  • Cases 60519, 60524, 60528 and 60530 are work pass holders who arrived from India and the Philippines.

  • Case 60527 is a work permit holder who arrived from India.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from one case in the week before to four cases in the past week, the MOH said. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from one case in the week before to two cases in the past week.

99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With seven more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 59,823 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 18 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, with one of them in the intensive care unit.

A total of 66 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Among the 67 confirmed cases reported from 22 to 28 February, 32 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 21 have tested negative, and 14 serology test results are pending.
