SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of 48 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (24 January), taking the country’s total case count to 59,308.

All the cases are imported and have been placed on Stay-Home Notice since their arrival in the country, said the ministry in a news release. Among this number are four Singapore permanent residents and 10 foreign domestic workers.

There are no new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection.

All 48 cases had already been placed on SHN or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, and were tested while serving SHN or during isolation. Among them:

  • Four are permanent residents who returned from India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

  • Four are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from France, India and the UAE.

  • One is a long-term visit pass holder who arrived from India.

  • Two are student’s pass holders who arrived from Egypt and India.

  • 11 are work pass holders who arrived from Bangladesh, Colombia, France, India, Nigeria and the UAE.

  • 22 are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom 10 are foreign domestic workers.

  • Three are short-term visit pass holders. Two arrived from India to visit their children who are PRs and one arrived from the US for a work project.

  • One is a sea crew holding a special pass who arrived onboard a vessel from Malaysia, and had not disembarked. He was conveyed to hospital when he developed symptoms, and subsequently tested positive.

Among the 195 confirmed cases reported from 18 January to 24 January, 101 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 36 have tested negative, and 58 serology test results are pending.

99% of total cases have recovered

With 26 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 59,041 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 50 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and none in the intensive care unit.

A total of 188 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
