SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed seven new COVID-19 cases in Singapore on Wednesday (25 November), taking the country’s total case count to 58,190.

All new cases are imported. For the 15th straight day, there are no new cases of locally-transmitted infections.

“All new cases today are asymptomatic, and were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance,” said the MOH.

One is a permanent resident and another is a student’s pass holder who both arrived from India. Four are work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from India, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The remaining case is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from Ukraine to board a ship docked here as a crew member.

All cases were placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving the notice, said the MOH.

The ministry also noted that authorities have been testing more extensively in the community to facilitate early detection and to obtain a better picture of the population prevalence of the virus.

“So far we have conducted such surveillance testing for taxi/private hire car drivers, food delivery personnel and cashiers. As part of the progressive rollout of community surveillance testing, we will extend testing for stallholders in and around Tekka Centre,” said the MOH.

The testing operations will be conducted near Little India MRT station on Thursday, it added.

On Tuesday, the ministry announced that there are no active COVID-19 clusters for the first time since 3 February.

99% of total cases have recovered; 1 in ICU

With 12 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Wednesday, 58,091 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 42 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 29 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
