SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed seven new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Thursday (29 October), taking its total case count to 57,994.

For the second day in a row, all cases are imported. All of them are also asymptomatic and “were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance”, added the MOH.

Of them, two are Singaporeans who returned from India, and one is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from Switzerland.

Three are work permit holders currently employed here who arrived from Indonesia and the Philippines.

The seventh imported case is a special pass holder who arrived from the Philippines to board a ship docked here as a crew member.

All of them were placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving the notice.

The MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has increased from two in the week before, to three in the past week. It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from one in the week before, to three in the past week.

Separately, the ministry also announced the closure of two clusters at Avery Lodge Dormitory – located at 2D Jalan Papan – and Jurong Penjuru Dormitory 2 – located at 36 Penjuru Place – as there are no cases linked to them for the past two incubation periods or 28 days.

99% of total cases have recovered; none in ICU

With nine more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Thursday, 57,899 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 37 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 30 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
