S'pore reports 520 new COVID cases; 81 total in Chinatown Complex cluster
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday (12 September) confirmed 520 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 71,687.
These comprise 454 community cases, 63 dormitory residents cases and three imported cases.
Among the local cases are 137 seniors who are above 60 years old.
The imported cases have already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. Of these, one was detected upon arrival while two developed the illness during SHN or isolation.
54 cases seriously ill in hospital, 7 in ICU
A total of 780 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are 54 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Of those who have fallen very ill, 50 are seniors above 60 years.
Over the last 28 days, the MOH said, the percentage of local cases who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms is 98.3 per cent. Of the 84 cases who required oxygen supplementation, 43 were not fully vaccinated and 41 were fully vaccinated. Of the six who had been in the ICU, four were not fully vaccinated and two were fully vaccinated. Of the four who died, none were fully vaccinated.
As of Saturday, 81 per cent of the population has completed their full vaccination regimen, and 84 per cent has received at least one dose.
A total of 8,859,168 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna). These cover 4,554,718 individuals, with 4,419,947 individuals having completed the full regimen.
In addition, 176,820 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered, covering 86,597 individuals.
Chinatown Complex cluster grows to 81 cases
Ten cases have been added to the Chinatown Complex cluster, bringing the total number of infections in the cluster to 81.
The ministry said that there is ongoing workplace transmission, affecting at least 67 stallholders and assistants, four cleaners, a Safe Distancing Ambassador and nine household contacts of workers.
Chinatown Complex has been closed to the public since 3pm on 12 September.
The ministry is also investigating a cluster at DHL Supply Chain Advanced Regional Centre (1 Greenwich Drive), which has 28 cases in total.
There is also workplace transmission in this cluster, the MOH said, with further spread to household contacts of cases. Of the 28 cases, 25 are staff and three are household contacts of cases.
Meanwhile, the PCF Sparkletots Braddell Heights (335 Serangoon Ave 3) cluster has 22 cases in total currently. Transmission have been among students in the same class, the ministry noted, with further spread to household contacts of cases.
