The misery, the exquisite tragedy.

Glen Powell recently revealed that his Anyone But You costar Dermot Mulroney hadn’t watched his 1997 classic rom-com My Best Friend's Wedding since its premiere 25 years ago.

Powell, 35, was a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show on June 3, where he spoke about his and Barrymore’s “mutual friend” Mulroney, 60 and shared that the pair watched My Best Friend's Wedding together while filming Anyone But You.

“He watched the movie for the first time in 25 years, and it was super emotional,” the Hit Man actor told Barrymore, 49. “He told me [not to] shy away from being a romantic lead. There's no greater privilege or greater joy than to represent love for people and bring joy [to] the theaters in the name of love.”

Powell continued on and told Barrymore that “people can scoff at that genre and say whatever they want. But at the end of the day, it makes people feel joy and love, which is the greatest thing you can do as an actor.”

At the Anyone But You premiere in December 2023, Mulroney told Entertainment Tonight that he would be up for making a sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding, after costar Julia Roberts expressed that she would be interested in working on a second film during her own appearances on Watch What Happens Live and CBS Mornings.

"I'm thrilled to hear Julia's finally, you know, coming to her senses," he said.

In the December 2023 issue of PEOPLE, Powell shared that he and Mulroney had a heart-to-heart conversation about making rom-coms, and that Mulroney advised him not to be “ashamed of being a man in a rom-com.”

Powell told PEOPLE that the advice made him think about his experience working on Anyone But You in a new way.

My Best Friend's Wedding is kind of a real tonal comp to this movie,” he explained. “A lot of people after they watch our movie say it's a lot like My Best Friend's Wedding.”
