Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee's new TV thriller airs tonight on Channel 5

Paul Mescal is set to return to our TV screens tonight (3 Aug), in a show that's a little different from his hit BBC drama Normal People.

The Irish actor stars in a Channel 5 psychological thriller called The Deceived, which was written by Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer.

Ahead of the series airing tonight (3 Aug), here's everything you need to know about The Deceived including the thrilling plot and star-studded cast.

The Deceived: What's it about?

The four-part series follows the story of English student Ophelia who falls in love with her married lecturer Dr. Michael Callaghan. The affair results in a tragic death that leaves Ophelia questioning everything she thought she knew and trying to unravel the mystery around her.

The Deceived: Who's in it?

The Deceived stars Belgravia's Emily Reid as Ophelia, The Fall's Emmett J. Scanlan as Dr. Michael Callaghan, Normal People's Paul Mescal as McKeough and Versailles star Catherine Walker will portray Michael's wife Rosin.

Derry Girls stars Ian McElhinney and Louisa Harland also feature in the series.

The four-part series will air on Channel 5 from 3 August - 6 August from 9pm to 10pm.
