Go on to Orchard Road and poll tourists on the one thing about Singapore that grates their nerves, and their answer would undoubtedly unanimous: the heat and humidity. A quick stroll around the neighbourhood at noon would soon leave anyone all sweaty and begging for a cooling beverage and a cold shower.

US-based startup G2T has developed a solution to mitigate this problem — a wearable cooling device. In a nutshell, the G2T-N2″electric scarf” device hugs the user’s neck, and with one button, tunes to a specified temperature to cool or warm up his/her body.

In a test, G2T claims the cool mode enables for up to a 40 per cent decrease in body temperature, and the heat mode can warm up a person’s body temperature by up to 20 per cent.

There are already existing wearable coolers out in the market, but G2T claims its solution is unique because instead of using cold freeze packs or heating pads, it uses a peltier thermoelectric chip to provide both warm and cooling effects with three thermoregulation modes.

The G2T-N2 is powered by a 6,000 mAh battery and can run for up to two hours. If overheating is a concern (because no one likes to have their neck scalded) , G2T says it has installed intelligent safety precautions which provides overcurrent protection as well as overheat protection.

Additionally, the device also has embedded Bluetooth technology so users can pair it with their smartphones to stream music from apps such as Spotify, iTunes, Pandora; make hands-free calls as well as get GPS-directions.

The project has raised currently raised over US$34,000 on Kickstarter. If you would like to purchase it at an early-bird price of US$109, you can do so at its Kickstarter page.
