Dota 2: Eastern European DPC to resume with qualifiers for Stockholm Major

The 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) in Eastern Europe is finally making its return after a two-month hiatus, with the six-week competition replaced with a six-day qualifier from 27 April to 2 May for the upcoming ESL One Stockholm Major.

The DPC Spring Tour in Eastern Europe was postponed in late February shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

Dota 2 developer Valve Software later said that competition in the region would have to be suspended "for the foreseeable future" due to the ongoing crisis.

The developer added that they engaged with teams and players in Eastern Europe "to see what their individual situations are and whether there might be ways that we could proceed".

Valve were able to resume the competition amidst the continued conflict in Eastern Europe to give teams in the region a chance to play in the Stockholm Major.

The Eastern European qualifier will be hosted by Beyond the Summit, the organiser of the DPC's Southeast Asian regional league.

The DPC competition in Eastern Europe was initially organised by Russia-based Epic Esports Events, who have since given up their rights to host the regional league so that "players, teams, and the community can focus on safety and security".

The qualifier will also feature the eight Division I teams, of which three will be able to qualify for the Stockholm Major.

There has been no date set for Division II teams to compete for their chance for promotion to Division I.

As of now, there has been no announcement of the allocation of DPC points for the competing teams. The tournament will have a prize pool of US$102,500, half the pot for a standard Division I Tour.

All eight teams will start in the upper bracket, with the team that wins the upper bracket finals automatically advancing to the Major.

The seven remaining teams will battle it out in the lower bracket, with the winner getting the second ticket to Stockholm.

The third to sixth-placed teams will then have one last chance of making it to the Major in the form of a single-elimination bracket between them.

All of the matches in the qualifier will be a best-of-three series. The bottom two teams will also be relegated to Division II for the Summer Tour.
