Dota 2 Stockholm Major Day 2: Spirit take over in Group B as OG falter

Day two of the ESL One Dota 2 Stockholm Major is over, and with 12 matches a day there is a lot to unpack.

After turning up in day one, OG were unable to win a single map on the second day of the group stage.

Southeast Asian teams continue to be the only region with all their teams in the top four, while Evil Geniuses might be the team that get eliminated before the playoffs.

The International 10 (TI10) champions Team Spirit took over the lead in Group B after they swept Thunder Awaken, 2-0, and split, 1-1, with TSM.

They sit atop their group with a 7-3 record and are in good position to secure an upper bracket berth.

Meanwhile, Eastern Europe's Mind Games were disqualified due to continuing VISA issues.

As a result, all teams in Group B can no longer be eliminated after the group stage and will only be playing for seeding in the main event.

In Group A, T1 and Tundra Esports had the best performance on day two, as both teams managed to take down OG Esports without dropping a game, leaving them at the top of the standings with a 5-1 score.

Both teams were also held to 1-1 draws — T1 against Beastcoast and Tundra Esports against BetBoom Team.

Meanwhile, fans of Southeast Asian Dota will be delighted to watch the second game of T1 against OG, as midlaner Karl "Karl" Matthew Baldovino secured 19 kills on Puck.

BOOM Esports continue to do well in the tournament, taking third place in Group A.

While the team led by coach Chai "Mushi" Yee Fung are currently looking at an upper bracket run, they haven't been able to win a series yet.

BOOM have gone 1-1 in all their matches so far. This is on par for the team, as BOOM dropped their first game in four of the six DPC series of the Spring Tour, yet still managed to win those series.

There is currently a three-way tie for fourth place in Group A between OG, BetBoom Team, and Beastcoast.

Of the three teams, BetBoom have the best chance of securing a fourth-place finish, as the Eastern European team have three series left, while OG and Beastcoast only have two to go.

Last in Group A and the only team that might get eliminated from the Stockholm Major Group Stage are Evil Geniuses.

The North American squad managed to get a draw on their second day of the tournament against BOOM Esports but remain far behind the other teams when it comes to placing.

EG are currently 1-5 and needs to at least get two draws if they want to have a chance of making it to the playoffs.

Over in Group B, Team Spirit and Team Liquid both had fantastic performances as each team racked up three wins while taking only one loss.

Team Spirit and TSM took turns taking games off each other, but Thunder Awaken were not as lucky when they played against the TI10 champions.

Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk impressed again as he managed to get seven kills in one fight during the second game with Thunder Awaken, putting the reigning TI champions in pole position with a 7-3 score.

While Team Liquid had a strong showing on day two of the Group Stage, they are still tied for second place with Gaimin Gladiators and Fnatic.

All three teams have a score of 5-3 and have two matches left to play.

Team Liquid have the toughest road ahead of them, as they are the only team among the three who haven't played against Team Spirit.

Thunder Awaken suffered their first loss in the group stage on day two, as they went head to head against Team Spirit.

The Peruvian team are still in a good spot in the tournament as they have the most games left to play in Group B and multiple chances to secure some victories.

TSM are currently tied with Thunder Awaken for sixth place. This makes North American teams last place in both groups.
