Dragon's Dogma 2 will add new game option, more character edit items, and other fixes after rocky launch

While the gameplay for Dragon's Dogma 2 has been excellent, performance issues and the presence of questionable microtransactions caused backlash from many players at launch.

Dragon's Dogma 2 developer Capcom announced on Monday (25 March) that they are planning on releasing patches to the game aimed at addressing multiple issues raised by players following its rocky launch last Friday (22 March).

While the gameplay for Dragon's Dogma 2 has lived up to the series' golden standard, performance issues and the presence of questionable microtransactions held the game back and caused backlash from many players at launch.

The game's performance issues hinted that it was poorly optimised, with massive FPS drops being reported by many players when entering areas where many NPCs are located. It got so bad that some players have resorted to plotting a massacre of NPCs just so they are able to play the game with acceptable FPS rates.

Meanwhile, Dragon's Dogma 2's microtransactions showed a 'pay-for-convenience' approach by the developers as it allowed players to purchase rare items like a character editor item, a Portcrystal (for fast travel), and a consumable to revive dead characters, among others with real-world cash.

Another issue brought up by players at launch was the fact that players are only locked into one save file.

While this was something that was already in the original, even back in 2012 it was questionable why players couldn't have multiple playthroughs running at the same time. As a result, players looking to restart their Dragon's Dogma 2 playthroughs, had to manually go through the game's files and delete their save.

The lone save file issue was among the many Capcom is looking to address, with the developer revealing in a post on the official Dragon's Dogma 2 X (formerly Twitter account) that they will be adding the option for players to start a new game when a save file already exists across all platforms.

The number of "Art of Metamorphosis" items, used to edit a character's appearance, in the Pawn Guilds will also be increased to 99, letting players change their character's looks by only spending in-game gold as much as they want without resorting to spending real-life money.

The quest that allows players to acquire their own dwelling, where they can save and rest without having to spend gold to do so in inns, will also be made available earlier in the game.

Capcom will also begin tackling the well-known performance issues for the game in its PC version by improving graphics quality when DLSS Super Resolution is enabled while also fixing an issue where character models appeared low quality under specific settings.

The game's console versions will also be getting the option to toggle Motion Blur and Ray Tracing on or off as well as the ability to switch the Frame Rate between Variable and 30 Max FPS options.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is the sequel to the 2012 cult classic action RPG by Capcom that is now available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

In Dragon's Dogma 2, players will take on the role of the Arisen, a figure destined to face the game's titular dragon who has taken their heart and prevent a coming apocalypse. They will also be joined in their quest by companions known as Pawns, human-like beings who assist the player in both combat and exploration.
