Santa Claus will be bringing his elves and reindeers to Gardens by the Bay East next month to spread festive cheer and grant wishes to children with serious illnesses.

The Santa Run for Wishes 2016 returns for its third edition on 26 November. As in previous years, participants are encouraged to dress up as their favourite Christmas character, such as Santarina, the Grinch and Kris Kringle, or any Christmas-themed outfit.

The event is organised by Make-A-Wish Singapore, which grants wishes to children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. Founded in 2002, Make-A-Wish Singapore has granted more than 1,200 wishes to these children aged three to 18 years old.

Last year’s run took place at Sentosa and drew some 3,500 runners. Make-A-Wish aims to attract some 5,000 runners and raise more than $700,000 for this year’s event.

The run will be preceded by a party and carnival with Wish Kids, or children whose wishes have been granted, and their parents. Runners can also bring a gift for the Wish Kids.

This year’s Race Ambassadors are national sprinter Dipna Lim-Prassad and former Olympian C. Kunalan.

Registration for the run, which costs $48 for adults, is now open and closes on 11 November. Runners can opt for the 2km or 5km route, and all participants will receive specially designed Santa and elf T-shirts.
