PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, reported an early morning pipe ‘leak’ at 111 Somerset Road via social media. One lane along Somerset Road remains temporarily closed to facilitate repairs.

PUB said it received a report of the leak at 12.40am on Tuesday (16 January) and immediately sent workmen to the site.

PUB’s Facebook page showed the left-most lane of Somerset Road, opposite the URA open carpark, closed as repair work continued.

The agency said that the leak had been isolated and repair work was in progress. In order to facilitate the repair, PUB closed three of Somerset Road’s four lanes. This closure was reduced as repairs progressed, with one lane still closed at 8am Tuesday. Motorists are advised to drive carefully or take alternative routes, added the agency.

Burst water pipes made the news in September 2017 when a “fountain” spouted from under the road at Bukit Batok, flooding a major junction. In October 2017, a burst pipe led to the closure of some lanes of Upper Serangoon Road.
