EastEnders' Dean Wicks tells a major lie in early iPlayer episode

EastEnders spoilers follow from Thursday's episode (March 21), which is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. This article contains storyline details that some viewers may prefer to avoid, as this episode hasn't yet aired on TV.

EastEnders' Dean Wicks told a shocking lie in a bid to cover his tracks in the show's latest episode (March 21).

Jade collapsed in Wednesday's scenes (March 20), after her dad Dean tampered with her oxygen during her charity fundraiser at The Vic.

Viewers know that Dean has been deliberately risking Jade's health, resorting to shocking lengths to stop her moving away to Pakistan with her mum Shabnam,

As Jade was rushed to hospital, a guilt ridden Dean struggled to hide his emotions.

Jean grew suspicious when Dean voiced his own guilt about what had happened, and quickly realised that something was amiss here. This only intensified when the doctor in charge of Jade's care gave them an update on her condition.

The doctor explained that while Jade's oxygen level was going up following her admission to hospital, he had some concerns about her chest infection – which should be clearing up by now.

When the doctor asked to see the antibiotic dose that Jade was on, Jean stepped in and offered to go and get them. Panicked, Dean did everything he could to try and stop her – but to no avail.

Back at Dean's flat, Jean voiced her concerns to Harvey that Dean could be tampering with Jade's medication.

Upon returning to the hospital, Dean quickly intervened and made sure he only gave the doctor the new strip of pills, so that no questions could be raised.

Unable to shake off her suspicions, Jean later confronted Dean about her concerns and realised he was indeed hiding something as she suspected. Jean insisted that she wasn't scared of Dean and was planning to tell the medics that Jade was not safe in his care.

Backed into a corner, Dean changed tactics and instead began to tell Jean his version of events. Dean tugged on Jean's heartstrings by explaining how much he loved Jade and how terrified he was of losing her all over again if she moved away.

Shockingly, he then lied that Jade had insisted on dealing with the medication herself, and he'd realised earlier that day that she hadn't actually been taking them. Dean claimed that Jade had risked her own health in order to not have to make a decision about who she wanted to live with, but does Jean really believe him?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
