The BBC has confirmed when it will run out of new episodes of the hit soap EastEnders.

No new episodes have been filmed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Up until now, the BBC has been rationing its backlog of episodes, broadcasting fewer weekly episodes than normal to make stocks last.

The BBC will broadcast episodes until 16 June. Beginning on 22 June, a new programme will air in place of regular EastEnders episodes, celebrating the show’s history.

Secrets from the Square will see Stacey Dooley interview two cast members each Monday to discuss their time on the soap. The programme will also offer previews of planned storylines and plot developments as well as behind-the-scenes secrets.

Letitia Dean, Tameka Empson, Danny Dyer, Adam Woodyatt, Diane Parish and Kellie Bright are among the actors who will appear.

“I grew up watching EastEnders, so walking on to Albert Square was a surreal experience, as well as taking a trip down memory lane,” Dooley said.

She added: “Interviewing some of the legends of Walford has been great. I’ve loved every minute.”

In addition to Secrets from the Square, classic EastEnders episodes will also be re-aired on Tuesdays.

The series is currently scheduled to resume filming at the end of June.
