Eddie Murphy Announces Standalone Donkey Movie in 'Shrek' Universe

Eddie Murphy revealed that a Shrek spinoff movie about his character, Donkey, is in the works.

The actor confirmed the news while on his press run for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, adding that he has already begun work on the upcoming Shrek 5. “We started doing Shrek 4 or [Shrek] 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up," Murphy said via Deadline. "Shrek is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a Shrek, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”

“I think it’s coming out in 2025,” he added of Shrek 5.

DreamWorks Animation and Universal did not comment on the upcoming Shrek installment, which is yet to be officially announced by the studio. News about the rest of the original voice cast, led by Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, were not revealed.
