Ellen DeGeneres addresses complaints of toxic workplace on talkshow

Ellen DeGeneres has addressed the complaints of a toxic work environment on her talkshow.

Earlier this month, Buzzfeed News published an article containing quotes from current and former staff members who claimed they had experienced racism, intimidation, unjust termination and a general toxic work culture during their time on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

These allegations of misconduct have prompted Telepictures and Warner Bros Television to launch an official investigation, which is said to be nearing completion.

Now, in a letter sent to her crew (via The Hollywood Reporter), DeGeneres has insisted that steps will be taken to "correct the issues," while also taking responsibility for the show since it bears her name.

"As we've grown exponentially, I've not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I'd want them done. Clearly some didn't," she wrote. "That will now change and I'm committed to ensuring this does not happen again."

Also in her letter, DeGeneres shared her sympathies with those on the show who feel they have been treated differently, reminding readers of the time she received death threats after coming out as gay.

"As someone who was judged and nearly lost everything for just being who I am, I truly understand and have deep compassion for those being looked at differently, or treated unfairly, not equal, or – worse – disregarded," she wrote.

Responding to the allegations earlier this month, executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner said in a statement: "We have strived to create an open, safe, and inclusive work environment.

"We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It's not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us."
