EMTEK and Ant Financial prepares DANA, Alipay implementation in Indonesia

The first step of Alipay implementation in Indonesia is by serving as payments platform in BBM

Last April, Indonesian media and tech mogul EMTEK Group and And Financial, Alibaba-backed owner of payments service Alipay, announced a joint venture to develop digital payments service in the country. According to information that DailySocial managed to gather, said product is DANA, which is set to be launched as a payments platform in Blackberry Messenger (BBM). The service is expected to be launched next month.

DANA will ease payments for various services that are connected to BBM, such as Alipay and Tencent Pay. BBM, as the centre of EMTEK’s digital ecosystem, now has BBM Shopping (which is connected to Bukalapak) and BBM Travel (connected to Reservasi.com).

For the e-money licensing, earlier this year EMTEK has acquired e-money licensing holder PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe (Espay) and DOKU. Following Go-Jek’s steps in entering payments market through an acquisition, it would not be surprising if Espay’s e-money license will be transferred to DANA.

Based on information on the whois platform, the DANA site was registered on behalf of Henry Iswaratioso and is based on the 18th floor of SCTV Tower. Vincent Henry Iswaratioso is known as the co-founder of Indomog, who is now the Country Head of Alipay Indonesia.

The digital payments market is entering a new chapter as the government speeds up effort to promote the use of e-money for various transactions. After “forcing” the Jabodetabek Commuter Line users, next month highway road users in Indonesia will have to use only e-money for all transactions.

In addition to that, various digital services are also rushing to secure e-money licensing. This month, Lippo Group-backed Ovo secured e-money licensing from Bank Indonesia, while Tokopedia and Shopee are temporarily stopping its digital payments service to adjust with its licensing requirements.
