eThekwini Coastal v Pirates

Nedbank Cup holders Orlando Pirates will expect to roll over eThekwini Coastal in their tournament opener at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday. Pirates, who claimed Telkom Knockout honours in December, are chasing a clean sweep of domestic titles as the current Premiership champions. Julio Leal's unit are faring well in the league this term as they trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by three points in the standings. However, reports of discord in the Bucs dressing room has heaped pressure on Leal, as has their recent exit from the CAF Champions League. Unrest aside, Leal, while admitting he knows little of their upcoming opponents, is preaching respect for the SAB regional league outfit. "We know very little about this team," he told his club's website on Friday. "But we will try to impose ourselves from the word go. Any team can win this cup, even the teams from the lower divisions as they have nothing to lose. "We will not be taking this game lightly which is why I chose my strongest possible team. We had an excellent preparation during the week. We have one more session this morning and then we are off to Durban, where we expect to have a good game," concluded the Brazilian. Leal has reported no fresh injuries, with the likes of Daine Klate, Benni McCarthy and Tokelo Rantie all set to make the trip to Umlazi. Meanwhile, eThekwini Coastal coach Lindani Shezi is naturally targeting a giant-killing. "The Nedbank Cup is a competition where the story of David versus Goliath can really come to life," he said. "It's a platform where heroes are born and where real heart and courage can lead you to instant success." Shezi will look to centre-back Vusi Khumalo, central midfielder Steven Malishe, striker Sthembiso Msomi and attacking midfielder Sihle Nduli to drive his team forward at the weekend. eThekwini Coastal, originally called Young Stars, were formed in 2001 and boast top-tier alumni in Siyanda Xulu (now with Sundowns), Njabulo Manqana (Pirates) and Phumelele Bhengu (ex-Moroka Swallows).
