Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney gives update on season 3 filming

Sydney Sweeney has confirmed filming on Euphoria season 3 is due to start soon.

The star was quizzed on her next projects after presenting acclaimed horror movie Immaculate at SXSW. It seems no time off is on the horizon for Sweeney, who will go back on set of Euphoria in the next few weeks.

"I go into Euphoria," the Cassie Howard actress told MTV in a video interview, teasing she has "maybe" seen new scripts.

"It's like home when I go back to it. I like it," she continued. "I'm excited. It's like family."

The last episode of season 2 aired in February 2022, meaning it'll be nearly three years before fans could have some new Euphoria.

Production on season 3 began last December after delays due to last summer's Hollywood strikes and the death of cast member Angus Cloud, who played Fez, and producer Kevin Turen.

The new season will also have a new format, as showrunner Sam Levinson teased a season structured like a noir movie through the eyes of Zendaya's protagonist Rue.

The new episodes are set to "explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world", Levinson revealed in Elle's profile of Zendaya last August.

Speaking recently about the delays, star Colman Domingo, who portrays Rue's sponsor Ali, explained Levinson is constantly rewriting the scripts to respond to world events in real time.

"[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he's wrestling with what's important," Domingo told GQ earlier this month.

"He's responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he's very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That's what he wants to figure out with season three."

Euphoria airs on HBO in the US and on NOW and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
