1 killed, 7 injured in Tanjong Kling Road fire

The woman who died in the fire at the warehouse has been identified as Lim Siaw Chian.

According to The Straits Times, she is a Malaysian who recently took up Singapore citizenship. She had gone back to work after maternity leave just a week before the fire occurred, and leaves behind a husband and a six-month-old baby girl.

Family members said Lim too had lost her own mother at a young age.

Seven others injured in a fire along Tanjong Kling Road on Monday (12 October).

In a statement, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said there was a fire and a few explosions were heard in the premises prior to its arrival.

When the SCDF arrived, the fire had engulfed a laboratory near to a production and storage area.

The SCDF deployed four water jets to contain the fire within the laboratory and prevented it from spreading to the nearby flammable cylinders. At the same time, SCDF personnel equipped with breathing apparatus sets conducted search operations within the premises.

The fire was later extinguished, the SCDF said.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene by SCDF paramedics.

The SCDF is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

An explosion was caught on camera by Twitter user @Alibaba_160194 who posted a video of the incident at 11.42am on Monday.


The SCDF said five of the victims were sent to the National University Hospital, while two were sent to the Ng Teng Fong Hospital.
