Constance Wu and Henry Golding may be the leads in Warner Bros’ upcoming adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians”, but Singapore stars will also make an appearance in supporting roles.

Production started in Malaysia and Singapore on Tuesday (25 April), with local celebs Pierre Png, Fiona Xie and Tan Kheng Hua among the ensemble cast.

Xie made her return to television last year on the Channel 5 drama “Left Behind”, while Png will star in the upcoming Channel 8 series “When Duty Calls”.

Veteran actress Tan was recently seen on TV in Netflix’s historical drama “Marco Polo” as the Empress Dowager, a role which she played for eight episodes.

Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, English actress Gemma Chan, Chinese actress Jing Lusi and American rapper/host Awkwafina also star in “Crazy Rich Asians”, which is based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel of the same name.

The cast also includes “Marco Polo’s” Chris Pang, “La La Land’s” Sonoya Mizuno and Ronny Chieng from “The Daily Show”.

It follows New York native Rachel Chu (Wu) as she accompanies her boyfriend Nick Young (Golding) back to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding, unaware that Nick comes from one of the country’s wealthiest families.
