After months of anticipation for Robert Pattinson's upcoming film The Batman, filmmaker Matt Reeves shared a first glimpse of what Pattinson will look like in the iconic role.

The dark and mysterious teaser clip features Pattinson in his new Batsuit, featuring a new Batman symbol along with part of Pattinson's cowl. The clip is equal parts dark, sad, and sexy, which is pretty on brand for Pattinson (and Batman).

Reeves's new take on the series will culminate in a trilogy featuring Pattinson. The first instalment, which started filming in London last month, is due out on June 25, 2021.

Zoe Kravitz will star as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcon, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson.

Meanwhile, Pattinson promises a Batman "just as crazy and perverse" as the characters he's become known for playing in indie films.

He's also been typically self-effacing about his casting, telling Esquire UK: "It's kind of insane. I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I've got it, at all."

The noir-style of the clip aligns well with the dark and mysterious reputation that Pattinson has established for himself in Hollywood.

Coming off a critically acclaimed performance in The Lighthouse, Pattinson's turn as Bruce Wayne should be particularly interesting considering how well Joker did at both the box office and during awards season.
