Three Singaporean men have been detained in Taipei since Monday (12 Dec) after two Taiwanese women accused them of gang rape.

A fourth Singaporean man, who was also arrested on Monday, has since been released on bail as the women said he did not take part in the gang rape, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency, quoting police and Shilin prosecutors.

The four men had flown to Taiwan for a sightseeing trip last week and met the two women via social media. After going to a Taipei nightclub on Sunday, the men and women adjourned to the men’s hotel.

The men got drunk, and three of them allegedly took turns raping the women, one of whom pressed charges.

Channel NewsAsia said the men were all students aged 23.
