Frank Murray & Frida Torresblanco’s Hangtime Lands First Production Gig With ‘The Night Manager’ Season 2

Frank Murray and Frida Torresblanco have boarded The Night Manager Season 2 as producers via their nascent Hangtime International Pictures, with plans ramping up for the next instalment of the John le Carré adaptation.

Deadline revealed the launch of Hangtime in the run up to Cannes and The Night Manager is its first project. Pan’s Labyrinth and First Reformed vets Murray and Torresblanco will join the production team as co-execs.

Murray was brought on board the series by The Ink Factory co-founder and co-CEO Simon Cornwell and EP Stephen Garrett, Hangtime said.

Backed by an eight-figure investment out of New York, Hangtime is focusing on developing and producing U.S. and regional content with global appeal. The partners recently told us they will work on high-end, specialist and mainstream content across film, television, and documentaries in both English and Spanish.

The move is the latest development for The Night Manager Season 2, which Deadline revealed was being supercharged with a double-season order by the BBC and Amazon several weeks back.

Plot is being kept under wraps but many Season 1 cast are returning including Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Noah Jupe. Daisy Jones & The Six star Camila Morrone has boarded while reports this week suggested Hugh Laurie could return. His character, the arch villain Richard Roper, was last seen in the back of a paddy wagon driven by arms buyers who were not best pleased with him.

Simon and Stephen Cornwell, co-Founders and CEOs of The Ink Factory, said they first met Murray while working on Ang Lee feature Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. “We relish the opportunity to be teaming with him again under his new banner,” they added.

“I’m thrilled to continue my working relationship with Simon and The Ink Factory team via Hangtime,” said Murray. “I am such a huge fan of the series, it is truly an honour and a privilege.”

Inspired by the characters in le Carré’s best-selling novel, the upcoming second series will once again be written by series creator David Farr and season two will be helmed by BAFTA-winning director Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls). Other EPs include lead non-writing EP Stephen Garrett for Character 7, Banks-Davies, Laurie and Tom Hiddleston; Joe Tsai and Arthur Wang for 127 Wall; Stephen and Simon Cornwell, Michele Wolkoff, and Tessa Inkelaar for The Ink Factory; Adrián Guerra for Nostromo Pictures; William D. Johnson for Demarest Films, Nick Cornwell, Susanne Bier, Chris Rice for Fifth Season and Gaynor Holmes for the BBC. The series is produced by The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, and in co-production with Nostromo Pictures.
