Among the actress's most memorable roles were Teresa di Vicenzo (Tracy) in Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, who remains the only woman 007 has ever married, and Emma Peel in spy series The Avengers.

In recent years, she found further fame playing Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones, who was known for her sharp witticisms and quickly became a fan favourite.

She was awarded a BAFTA and an Emmy for her work on television, the former for Best Actress in 1990 for Mother Love, and the latter for playing Mrs Danvers in the 1997 TV adaptation of Rebecca.

In 2000, she was also awarded a special BAFTA award for The Avengers alongside co-stars Honor Blackman, Joanna Lumley and Linda Thorson.

In more recent years, Rigg also appeared in 2013 Doctor Who episode 'The Crimson Horror' and ITV's Victoria, as well as current Channel 5 series All Creatures Great and Small.

Tributes have since poured in for the late star, including from Mark Gatiss, who wrote her episode of Doctor Who, saying: "there will never be another. RIP."
