Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia launched its Manado-Sorong-Jayapura route on Tuesday.

Garuda’s 96-passenger seat Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen will fly the route four times a week.

"By expanding our network in eastern Indonesia, we will help support regional economic growth and the business and tourism sectors," airline sales and marketing director Erik Meijer said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

He added that the new route was in line with the government’s Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI).

Besides the Manado-Sorong-Jayapura route, the carrier plans to launch a Jakarta-Amsterdam non-stop service on May 30 and a Jakarta-Tokyo route, via Haneda International Airport, on June 15.
