The Singapore Democratic Party has unveiled its third batch of candidates to contest in next month’s election.

John Tan, 55, social psychologist and lecturer, and Sidek Mallek, 54, compliance auditor for a security firm, were introduced at an SDP press conference on Thursday (27 Aug).

Tan, who was also Vice Chairman on SDP, said, "I think the people out there need to have a voice to speak for them. And I would like to be that voice."

Sidek said he joined the party because he believed it can help improve the lives of Singaporeans through its policies. "I've been with SDP since 2011. I feel that it's time for SDP to be heard for its very good alternative policies," he said.

With the inclusion of Tan and Sidek, the SDP has introduced six candidates thus far to contest the election on 11 September 2015.

The other candidates it unveiled previously were Paul Ananth Tambyah, 50, professor of medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and senior infectious diseases physician at the National University Hospital (NUH); Jaslyn Go Hui Leng, 42, co-founder of a construction company; Chong Wai Fung, 45,  administrator of Ren Ci Nursing Home (Moulmein); and Khung Wai Yeen, 34, accounts manager at a European MNC and a former navy regular.

The SDP will introduce the rest of its candidates a few at a time, before Nomination Day. It has not revealed which wards that its candidates will be contesting in.
