Genshin Impact drop Tighnari voice actor Elliot Gindi after claims of sexual harassment, abuse

Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse announced on Thursday (16 February) that they have removed Elliot Gindi as the English voice actor for Tighnari "due to a breach of contract" and are currently looking for a replacement.

"After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract," HoYoverse said in a statement posted on the official Genshin Impact social media accounts.

The said breach of contract likely refers to Gindi getting accused of offensive and abusive behaviour towards fans back in 8 February, with some of the allegations purporting that the voice actor sexually harassed underage fans.

With Gindi officially out as Tighnari's English voice actor, HoYoverse said that they are working with their voice recording agency for Genshin Impact "regarding matters of casting and re-recording".

"At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari's existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements," said HoYoverse.

A day prior to the allegations against him being posted, Gindi announced that he was taking a break from his online activity to seek therapy. However, he would later return to issue an official statement and apology.

In a Twitlonger, Gindi confirmed that his departure from social media was because of the serious allegations that would come to light the day after.

While admitting most of the accusations to be true, Gindi denied his alleged involvement with underaged fans.

More people alleging to be victims of Gindi's abuse have since come forward to reveal what the voice actor did to them.

This is not the first time HoYoverse has had to deal with controversy over a Genshin Impact voice actor in hot water for abusive and offensive behaviour.

Back in October 2021, HoYoverse suspended its cooperation with Li Yuantao after it came to light that he committed adultery and was manipulating his fans for sexual favours.

Li Yuantao was the Chinese voice actor for Oz, the familiar of the playable character Fischl. Zhao Yuecheng would later replace Li Yuantao as Oz's Chinese voice actor.
