Google's Project Jaquard wants to weaves sensors into your clothes

Project Jaquard

A new venture that would make interacting with fabric like interacting with a smartphone's touchscreen was unveiled on Friday at the second day of Google's annual developer conference.

Rather than simply being a novelty, Google's Project Jaquard is something that could truely change the face of fashion.

But the industry won't change on its own so Google is already working with it on the design of fabrics and fibres that can work with sensors but that can still behave like a shirt, or more fittingly a pair of jeans - as Levi's will be the venture's first partner.

Levi's said at the conference that its decision was about facilitating the way consumers interact with devices in their daily lives and making interactions with things like smartphones less obtrusive.

As well as announcing its partnership, Levi's also said that it would be building apps to go with its interactive clothes and called on the developers present to get involved.
