Almost six months after Uber unveiled its ride-sharing service UberPool, Grab looks set to launch a similar product named GrabShare, as the rivalry between the two ride-hailing services continues.

The new platform will allow passengers travelling in the same direction to carpool and share the cost of their trip.

According to Grab’s online driver training platform, the service works in a similar manner to UberPool, allowing a maximum of two passengers per booking.

Passengers are matched according to their routes, and fares shared amongst the riders. Passengers also split the cost of any tolls incurred during the trip.

The service differs from Grab’s current car-pooling service GrabHitch, which is not-for-profit and is aimed at private car owners who wish to share their ride at their own convenience with passengers travelling in the same direction.

In response to Yahoo Singapore’s queries on the launch date or fare schemes for the new service, a Grab spokesman would only comment, “We (Grab) are always experimenting and looking at ways to make transport more efficient.”

UberPool was launched in July this year. Fares are stated upfront, as well as the riders they will be sharing their ride with.
