A grandmother has rekindled with her first love 35 years after their last date after he had a dream about her.

Louise Tennant, 56, swore off men after her children’s father vanished, leaving her to raise their two children alone.

But her world was turned upside down when she got a message out of the blue from her first love, who contacted her on Facebook after she appeared in a dream, in the place where they first met.

On her first holiday abroad, Louise met handsome squaddie Dave Evans, now aged 61, in Gibraltar.

The couple were soon inseparable, spending every day of the week together.

After she returned home to Coventry, Warks., they kept in touch and taxi driver Dave would visit when he was back in England, even helping her babysit.

But when the Falklands War began in 1982, he was sent away and they lost touch.

Now, 35 years after they first met, the couple are dating once more after divorcee Dave got in touch with Louise on Facebook.

Louise said: “It’s strange when you see someone after all that time – I don’t think I’d have recognised him otherwise, but when we started talking it all seemed the same.

“We’re just older and greyer, and hopefully wiser.

“I’d been single for 23 years after my children’s father left them to bring them up on my own.

Taxi driver Dave added: “I just had this dream about her and wondered how she was doing, so I had a look on Facebook.

“In the dream we were in Gibraltar and she was wearing a white nurse’s uniform with a red cross, and we were feeding the wild monkeys.

“I sent her a message and 40 seconds later she messaged me back. The rest is history.”

Louise was initially unsure of meeting up with Dave when he messaged her in October 2016.

For two days Louise deliberated but eventually conceded he could come round for a cup of tea, while she looked after her grandsons.

Within a month of them meeting, he told her he was in love with her, and she soon realised the feeling was mutual.

Now both Louise and Dave have met each other’s families – including some people who they met decades before.

Dave added: “She’s still the same – I tease her for being posh. She’s got a teacher voice and she can be a bit stern, and I tell her ‘you’re not in the classroom now.’

“We’re having a great time together.”

Despite living in different parts of the country, the loved-up couple see each other a couple of times a month and enjoy meeting up for exotic holidays, including Las Vegas and Majorca.

Louise said: “I never thought I would love another man again and I was quite happily resigned to it.

“But he’s given me true love and happiness – it’s changed my life.”
