‘Hello, Love, Again’: Star Cinema & GMA Pictures Set Sequel To Filipino Box Office Hit ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’

EXCLUSIVE: The Philippines’ Star Cinema and GMA Pictures are teaming up to produce Hello, Love, Again, the sequel to blockbuster hit Hello, Love, Goodbye.

The 2019 original film was the highest-grossing Philippine film of all time, until it was surpassed by Rewind in January this year.

Veteran actress Kathryn Bernardo and actor Alden Richards will reprise their characters, Joy and Ethan, in Hello, Love, Again. Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who helmed the original film, will also direct the sequel, which will be shot in Canada.

The film’s theatrical release is set for November 13 this year in the Philippines, with international releases following thereafter.

Mild spoiler: Hello, Love, Again will be set five years on from when Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) said goodbye to Ethan (Alden Richards) and Hong Kong to pursue her dreams in Canada. After fighting for their love to conquer the time, distance and a global shutdown that kept them apart, Joy and Ethan meet again in Canada but realize that they have also changed a lot, individually.

This will be the first collaboration on a film between ABS-CBN’s film production outfit Star Cinema and GMA Network’s film production company GMA Pictures.

Parent companies ABS-CBN and GMA have collaborated on two shows to date as part of a wide-ranging content pact: Legacy variety show It’s Showtime in April this year as well as drama series Unbreak My Heart last year. After exiting the broadcast business in 2020, ABS-CBN has collaborated with former network rival GMA on several occasions, as part of the company’s strategic pivot towards content production.

“Star Cinema has always been passionate about capturing the stories of our overseas Filipino workers in the big screen, to pay tribute to their sacrifices, grit and resilience to be able to provide for their families,” said Kriz Gazmen, Head of Star Cinema.

Hello Love Again is born out of that same passion, and this time, focusing on the lives of the Filipinos in Canada. This also marks the beginning of our beautiful collaboration with GMA Pictures, who share the same passion with us in telling stories for the Filipino audience worldwide.”

Garcia-Sampana added: “I am as excited as all of you perhaps, to find out what Joy and Ethan had gone through after Hello, Love, Goodbye and will be going through in Hello, Love, Again.”

Star Cinema collaborated with APT Entertainment and Agosto Dos Pictures to produce the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, Rewind, which collected nearly $17M at the global box office. GMA Pictures released the movie Firefly last year, which clinched the Best Picture award in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival.
