  • "The Acolyte" follows a Jedi master who investigates the suspicious deaths of other Jedi.

  • It's set 100 years before the "Star Wars" prequel era of the franchise.

  • The show features "Squid Game" actor Lee Jung-jae and "Matrix" star Carrie-Anne Moss.

The "Star Wars" universe is getting bigger with 2024's "The Acolyte," which revolves around a Jedi master tasked with finding the culprit when several Jedi knights are murdered.

Created by "Russian Doll" showrunner Leslye Headland, the show is set 100 years before "Episode I - The Phantom Menace." It takes place in the High Republic era, where the Jedi are at the peak of their power.

It's the latest move from Disney+ and Lucasfilm to move away from the main "Star Wars" movies.

Other examples are "Rogue One" and "Solo: A Star Wars Story," as well as TV shows like "The Mandalorian," "Ahsoka," and "Andor."

Here's who's in "The Acolyte" cast and where you've probably seen them before.

The Jedi leading the investigation into the crime spree is Master Sol, played by Lee Jung-jae.

Netflix subscribers will recognize Jung-jae from his role as Seong Gi-hun in the streamer's surprise hit, "Squid Game."

In May, the Jung-jae told Business Insider that "Squid Game" season two will arrive on Netflix in December 2024. He'll be taking up his role again.

He also touched on the stuntwork in "The Acolyte."

Jung-jae said: "It was actually a lot more difficult than any kind of sword work that I've done previously, and I was actually very nervous for it."

Carrie-Anne Moss plays Master Indara

Carrie-Anne Moss plays Jedi Master Indara, and can be seen dueling with Mae (Amandla Stenberg) in the first trailer.

It's possible that Indara is one of the murdered Jedi which kicks off the story. As pointed out by Inverse, the first poster for the series features a bloodied lightsaber, and the design of the weapon seems to match the one used by Indara in her duel with Mae.

Moss is best known for playing Trinity all four "Matrix" movies, opposite Keanu Reeves as Neo.

Headland told Empire Magazine it was a "no-brainer" to cast Moss as Indara.

"She is very much inspired by Trinity," she said of Indara. "I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight – somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, 'Oh, that's the most powerful Jedi in the room.' And that's Trinity."

Amandla Stenberg plays Mae

"Bodies Bodies Bodies" star Amandla Stenberg plays Mae in the series. She used to be a Jedi padawan, but is no longer with the order when "The Acolyte" starts.

A trailer for the series shows Mae fighting with Indara, but it's not clear whether Stenberg's character is a Sith since she doesn't seem to have her own red lightsaber.

Dafne Keen plays Jecki Lon

British star Dafne Keen plays Master Sol's padawan, Jecki Lon. Keen wore prosthetics and makeup for the role, and told Elle it felt "transformative."

"She was originally going to be much harsher and colder and distant, and then as soon as I found myself in her skin, she was much softer, more sensitive, and just curious and excited about everything."

Fans will recognize Keen from playing the violent young mutant X-23 in the X-Men spinoff "Logan."

She also played Lyra Belacqua, the lead role in the "His Dark Materials" TV series.

Charlie Barnett as Yord Fandar

Another Jedi in the series is Yord Fandar, played by Charlie Barnett, and StarWars.com describes him as "an overachiever and a rule follower."

He uses a yellow lightsaber, rather than the stereotypical blue or green blades.

Barnett also played Alan Zaveri in "Russian Doll," which was created by "The Acolyte" showrunner Leslye Headland.

The actor also starred in Netflix's "YOU," as Gabe Miranda, Love Quinn's (Victoria Pedretti) best friend.

Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya

The first trailer briefly showed Jodie Turner-Smith as the mysterious Mother Aniseya, the leader of a witch coven that "values their independence and the preservation of their beliefs and powers," per StarWars.com.

Turner-Smith worked with Daniel Kaluuya on "Queen & Slim" in 2019 before playing Kyra in "After Yang" and Countess Sekou in "Murder Mystery 2."

Manny Jacinto plays Qimir

Qimir is played by Manny Jacinto, who told Total Film (via /Film) that his former smuggler isn't interested in the mystery that the show revolves around.

Jacinto said he's "doing his own thing and gets pulled into this whole storyline, whether he likes it or not."

The Canadian actor is best known for playing the lovable Jason Mendoza in "The Good Place" and also had a minor role in "Top Gun: Maverick."

Joonas Suotamo as Kelnacca

Kelnacca the Wookiee "is a loner who lives a solitary life," according to StarWars.com. So it's unclear how he gets involved with the mystery in "The Acolyte."

He is played by Joonas Suotamo, who is no stranger to the franchise.

Suotamo previously stepped played Chewbacca in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, as well as 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story."
