'Holy grail' of Kurt Cobain's clothing headlines rock music auction
Items once belonging to music greats Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley and more will hit the auction block. Julien's Auctions will hold its "Icons & Idols: Rock 'N' Roll" auction in New York on Friday (October 25) and Saturday (October 26).
A green acrylic, mohair and Lycra cardigan sweater worn by Cobain during Nirvana's appearance on MTV Unplugged in 1993 is expected to fetch up to $300,000.
"It's the holy grail of articles of clothing that you could buy of Kurt Cobain's. And it's really a museum piece. It's just such an important piece of pop culture history," said Julien's Auctions CEO Darren Julien.
A Michael Jackson leather glove with rhinestones worn during The Jacksons' Triumph Tour in 1981 is expected to go for between $100,000 to $200,000.
Also on the auction block, a mustard yellow velvet jacket worn by Elvis Presley in the film "Girl Happy" has a pre-sale estimate of up to $10,000 and handwritten song lyrics from Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.
