The new Honor 9: high-end specs at a very low price

The Honor 9 is available to order in Europe

Launched with great pomp and ceremony in Berlin, Germany, on June 27, the Honor 9 is now available to order in Europe.

The brand's new high-end device is a 5.15-inch display, Full HD (1080p) smartphone with a 3D curved glass back which gives it a high shine. In terms of power, it has a Kirin 960 chipset and 4GB of RAM. But its big selling point is its camera, which on paper is similar to that of the Huawei P10, without the "Leica" stamp, but almost 200 euros cheaper.

The camera is dual-lens, with a 20 MP monochrome sensor and a 12MP color one. That means better snaps at night, and generally sharper images, capturing the tiniest detail with the zoom (2x). There is also a portrait mode which blurs the background behind the subject, and the device films well in 4K.

In terms of audio technology, Honor says the phone can simulate surround sound situations such as being in a concert hall. There is also a fingerprint scanner, NFC connectivity, and the phone runs on Android 7.0 with the brand's EMUI 5 skin stuck on top.

It is available from €430/ £380 and comes with an Honor Band 3 fitness tracker.

Launched in 2014, Honor is a Huawei brand which essentially targets young people by cultivating a friendlier image and offering them phones at very competitive prices.
