Electricity tariffs will go up by an average of 5.6 per cent or 1.07 cents per kwh for the first three months of 2017, said SP Services on Friday.

The tariff for January to March will be 20.20 cents per kwh, an increase from the current 19.13 cents now. The 20.20 cents per kwh is the highest charge in more than a year.

SP Services cited the the cost of natural gas for electricity generation, which has increased by 10.6 per cent compared to the previous quarter as the reason for the higher tariff.
