An Indonesian maid assaulted her elderly employer out of anger while helping the latter take a shower last year.

Mudrikah, 26, who goes by one name, hit 69-year-old retiree Ng Chat Heng on her wrist with a shower head.

At the State Courts on Wednesday (23 January), Mudrikah was jailed for one week after pleading guilty to one count of causing hurt.

On 4 April last year, Mudrikah was helping Ng to shower when the latter tried to hold the shower head and move around.

Afraid that Ng would fall and hurt herself, Mudrikah scolded her. The maid did not want to be scolded by the victim’s niece, the court heard.

“Out of anger and frustration, the accused took the shower head form the victim and used the shower head to hit the victim on her left wrist,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanda Sum.

Mudrikah then finished showering Ng and escorted her back to her bedroom to rest.

Three days later, Ng’s niece visited her and noticed some bruises and a small cut on her aunt’s left wrist.

She took Ng to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and staff there made a police report about the assault.

Ng was found by a doctor to have extensive bruising over her left arm and wrist. There was also mild soft tissue swelling over the wrist, with reduced bone density.

For causing hurt, Mudrikah could have been jailed up to two years and fined up to $5,000.
