Inside Out spin-off TV series gets release window

Inside Out’s upcoming spin-off show has received a release window.

According to Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, Dream Productions has already been completed and will arrive on Disney+ during the first half of 2025.

"We have finished. It’s coming out next spring. I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date," he told Entertainment Weekly.

Sharing some more detail about the series, Docter continued: "In the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird.

"We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it’s pretty cool."

The first Inside Out movie debuted in 2015, following Riley's emotions – including Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust – as they work out how to best navigate Riley’s new life after she is uprooted from Minnesota to San Francisco.

The animated film’s anticipated sequel, which arrived in cinemas earlier this month, continues the story and introduces new emotions – Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment – after Riley enters her dreaded teenage years.

The sequel secured the second-biggest opening of all time for an animated movie, before delivering the biggest Juneteenth for any movie with $30 million taken on Wednesday (June 19).

It also ranks as the third highest-grossing non-opening Wednesday of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens($38 million) and The Rise of Skywalker($32.2 million), as well as the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the US behind Dune: Part Two with $235.4 million.

Inside Out 2 is out now in cinemas. Inside Out is available to watch on Disney+.
