Jacky Cheung says no to working with Wong Kar Wai

1 Apr - Although he used to work with Wong Kar Wai in the late '80s and early '90s, Jacky said that he has no plans to collaborate with the director anymore.

As reported on Mingpao news, the actor, who starred in several of Wong's movies including "Days of Being Wild" and "As Tears Go By" – the latter which won him a Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor – admitted that the director was very strict when it comes to filming.

"For example, there was this one simple take in "Days of Being Wild" where I had to look up from the floor. It took me more than 60 takes to do it, and after a while, he said, "Whatever, that's enough!" and walked away," said Jacky.

The actor admitted that it made him very uncomfortable, since they were not just actor and director, but also friends in real life.

"I didn't understand why he treated me like that. You should at least tell me which take you're going to use," he said.

Jacky admitted that at that point, he realised how exasperating life is as an actor. However, he acknowledged that Wong is an outstanding and talented director.

When asked if "Ashes of Time" was the last movie he would ever make with Wong, Jacky responded light-heartedly, "It should be the last!"
