New Bayern Munich signing James Rodriguez believes that leaving European champions Real Madrid for the German champions is no downgrade for his career.

The 26-year-old Colombian moved to Germany on a two-year loan a couple of weeks ago, with Bayern holding the option of making it permanent at the end of the agreement.

He enjoyed three trophy-laden seasons at the Spanish capital, but never played 29 league games in any seasons. The attacking midfielder was frozen out of the team towards the end of last season, and made only 32 appearances in all competitions.

But now, he is hoping for a fresh start to his career in Munich.

“I’m looking to win titles and play much more than I used to play with Real Madrid,” James replied when asked about his decision to choose Bayern Munich.

“Bayern is a big club that are always fighting for the titles. They are a world class club and that was what I’m looking for.”

James was speaking to the media at an adidas event with FC Bayern Munich players at Clifford Square on Monday evening (24 July).

His best spell at Madrid came under current Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti, and he is looking forward to renewing the partnership with the Italian tactician.

“Carlo knows my style and I know his style. It’s much easier for both of us to work together and I think we both know pretty much what to expect from each other,” said James.

Ancelotti has said that he believes the youngster will be a key player in the defending German champions’ lineup.

James also added that despite the dismal end to his stint with the La Liga giants, he “wouldn’t have changed anything”.

“I spent three years there, and those three years were very good. So looking back, I would leave everything as it is.”
