Jasmine Curtis-Smith wins Best Actress

The actress wins her first best actress accolade at the 2016 Cinema One Originals

22 Nov - Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith emerged as Best Actress for the first time at the 2016 Cinema One Originals Film Festival.

As reported on ABS-CBN News, the actress, who plays Alex, a lesbian in love with her own best friend in the movie "Baka Bukas", was in tears as she accepted the trophy during the ceremony held on 20 November.

"Thank you so much to [director Samantha Lee] for thinking of me to play Alex. Thank you so much to the entire team. You guys really helped me become the Alex I needed to be," she said.

"[Long live] LGBT community! We have a voice. I am with you guys whether I am LGBT or not. I stand with you guys and I will be with you all the way," she added before ending her speech.

The aforementioned movie also won two other awards including the Audience Choice Award.

Meanwhile, coming-of-age drama "2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten" became the biggest winner that night, winning three major categories including Best Picture.

Best C1 Minute Top Student Film: Nino Justin Tecson's "No Seguir"

Best Screenplay: Jose Abdel Langit, "Malinak Ya Labi"
