Jay Z inks movie and TV deal with The Weinstein Company

Music mogul Shawn ‘Jay Z' Carter has signed an exclusive deal with The Weinstein Company (TWC) to generate movies and scripted and unscripted TV, further extending his influence over entertainment and pop culture.

The two-year partnership follows the company's recent similar tie-up with "Southpaw" director Antoine Fuqua, with "a couple of projects" already in the pipeline for Carter and TWC (via Deadline).

The venture into TV and film is a natural extension for Carter, who already touches sports, music, fashion via his multi-media company Roc Nation, and has previously been involved in features such as "Annie," "Top Five," and "The Great Gatsby."

Commenting on the news in a statement, Carter said: "I'm excited to tell stories from real life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight...Harvey [Weinstein, TWC Co-Chairman] and David [Glasser, TWC President and COO] are visionaries both of whom have done this time and time again. I'm already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline and I'm looking forward to discovering others."
