Jose Mourinho completed 1000 matches as a manager on Sunday as AS Roma defeated Sassuolo in a thrilling game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy. The match became more memorable for Mourinho as Stephen El Shaarawy scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to help his club win the tie 2-1. With the win against Sassuolo, Mourinho now has won 63 matches out of 1000 (win 640, draw 198, lose 162).

“I told everyone lies! I had been saying to the team for days that this 1000th game was not important to me… but I had an incredible fear of losing! Luckily we won and I was running like a child today because I was feeling 12 years old, not 58” said Jose Mourinho after the win

The 58-year-old manager began his coaching career in Portugal with Benfica in 2000. He also coached Uniao de Leiria before he made his name at FC Porto, where he won the Champions League. Then he moved to England with Chelsea in 2004, where he won two Premier League titles, a FA Cup, and two League Cups in his three seasons at the club.

After a successful stint with Chelsea, he joined the Italian club Inter Milan in 2008. He won Serie A twice, including a European treble of Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League in 2010 with Milan. Jose Mourinho then moved to Real Madrid, where he won La Liga in 2011–12 with a record points tally.

He then left Real Madrid in 2013 and rejoined Chelsea, where he won another league title and League Cup. But after a poor run in the 2015 season, he was dismissed and was appointed at Manchester United. He won the UEFA Europa League, League Cup, and FA Community Shield in his first season with United. In 2018, after Manchester United suffered a poor run of league results, he was dismissed and then became manager of Tottenham Hotspur. And currently, he is the manager of Roma, where he has maintained a 100% record so far. Mourinho has won five out of five matches in all competitions.
